Days and nights are a blur as Jonathan and I are showing a little wear and tear. Hospice is a blessing, though at times a little intrusive. Dean is generally alert though sleeps for longer and longer periods. He has no pain. Some days he seems to be resting and gaining strength, and is restless at other times. His body is very weak, but his spirit is strong. His appetite has returned a little and though he wants no solid food, he talks about having grits and shrimp. Black bean soup (pureed) with hummus, broth and fresh salsa fills the bill. He also enjoys having a chocolate or vanilla protein drink each day. Many visitors have been welcomed and Dean is always the first to ask 'how are you and the family?'

Jonathan is out trying to bring down the foot+ tall grass and our thoughtful neighbor showed up with her rider (Thank you Pamella!) to get the bulk down. It has been too wet and soppy. Love the smell of newly-mown grass. Hospice is coming by with bathing products so I can keep Dean's beard up better.
It is heartbreaking to lose the closeness and contact with my very best friend of my lifetime. The little things, running errands together, eating a meal together at the table, taking a walk, having lively discussions.
