Brenda from hospice stopped by today to check on Dean. I mentioned our concerns and she immediately got on the phone to order a different mattress for his bed, an air mattress that changes pressure automatically. It will reduce all pressure spots and we won't need or need be concerned about the lamb skin, etc. or repositioning him as often. What a blessing that will be. Hopefully will be delivered Friday morning. She also provided good suggestions for the 'Plan B' I mentioned yesterday as he can no longer stand. She is also requesting some sort of lift to get him in and out of bed. Sounds like a sling-type swing, but she will show us how to use it when it arrives. My over-taxed back is grateful for any help.

After basics and a protein drink early this morning, Dean settled down for a few more hours sleep and I went back to bed until the third phone call finally got me up. Jonathan had stayed up all night so slept all day. Dean had a full coffee mug of black bean soup and a little peach ice cream for lunch. This evening he wanted something hot again, so I pureed some mildly spicy gumbo type soup. He went for the last drop and stayed awake to watch two episodes of Survivorman. Not much on tv holds his attention but this did.

A kind friend has graciously offered to come by and help Jonathan get his studded tires off. He has never changed a tire and hasn't been out of the house since a couple weeks before the April 1 deadline. Hopefully this will be accomplished by the weekend or he will take his regular tires to Les Schwabs and chance getting a ticket driving the studs.

I am so stiff and in dire need of exercise. Need to figure in a walk down the road to coincide with a time when I have energy.

Dear Dean, Jill and Jonathan,
I just got updated from your blog site. I have been in Florida helping my sister after some surgery she had. She is widowed and it is always important to have someone with you at the hospital etc. Bill was so good to let me come for a couple of weeks. I go home Tuesday and will be glad to be there, as happy as I was to be able to help my sister.
My heart aches for you and I am so sorry I am as far away as I am and cannot do more than pray. I do pray for you all that the God of all strength and mercy will sustain you in unexpected and marvelous ways in the days ahead.
Love & prayers,
Ginny & Bill
