Chemo Week #2

One of many quilts hung in the oncology department hallways.

Well, this has been a rough week. Starting with chemo #2 on Monday. Dean is very weak and we have had to resort to dropping him off at the front door, and taking elevators. We met with Dr. Pierce, the oncologist beforehand so I guess that is the protocol. I asked about Dean going off the cholesterol drug since that affects the liver and he agreed. He also will cut the steroid in half in two more weeks. I also asked how long did he think those tumors were growing. He said probably a couple years. We women are encouraged to have regular mammograms. Why not regular CT scans. Deans condition would have shown up many months ago.

Dean lost 6 pounds since last week. His BP was good. This week's nurse didn't get the IV in right and it bothered him the whole time. He didn't want me to say anything as he didn't want it messed with. I was told his platelet count was down so the doctor cut his dose in half. After Dean wanted to go straight home to eat and rest. He will have a week off and his next dose will be in two weeks.

His hair started falling out the last few days. He has had no nausea or pain. He still has some of that tingling/jerking in the same three fingers of his right hand. If the radiation addressed the brain tumors, I thought that would have stopped. Will remember to ask about that. I am getting rundown. One night I slept 14 hrs. This morning I dreamed I was taking his treatments for him.

My sweet and kind neighbor called tonight to tell me she is going to take the mama cat and her 2 babies that have adopted me in to get them fixed. She is considering taking the cute little boy and hoping to find a taker for the little female. I will keep mama. With no fertile females around, hopefully the feline population in our neighborhood will finally taper off.

I stumbled upon the best juice combination today. It was so good, really refreshing.
3 large carrots
1 celery
1 apple
1 small whole lime

Thanks to all who have kept Dean in your prayers. It is the best gift you can give us. He gets very emotional when I relay to him your emails and kind comments. When you've usually been the one giving, it's hard to be on the receiving end. But he is very thankful to you all.

Hi Jill, thanks for the update. We've been wondering how it was going. With 2 wks off maybe you both will have time to rest up and gather your strength. That is our prayer for you both.
The juice will be really good for you both.
When I fix it I use around 6-8 carrots, one stalk of celery, about a 4" piece of fresh ginger cut in pieces, 1 granny smith apple, 1/2 of lemon or lime, a small cluster of red grapes and 2-3 handfuls of fresh spinach and at the end a cup of cold filtered water. This will wash all the juice from the juicer. It makes a good quart.
It is really good!
Love a prayer always.
