Insurance

Dean woke me this morning asking for cajun grits and eggs for breakfast. Must be the steroids.

I finally (hopefully) got the insurance cleared up. We met with a rep from Secure Horizons just after Christmas. Their program sounded pretty good with a monthly premium half of what I was paying for ODS. And since Dean has been so healthy, it sounded like a good move. He signed the papers on December 27th. It is an HMO, meaning that it is a replacement for Medicare as they take over as the 'manager' of the funds and cover some charges where Medicare leaves off, ergo the extra monthly premium. Dr. Hall/Salem Clinic was designated as primary care and all medical care must be coordinated through them in order for the insurance to pay. When we ended up in the ER on New Years Day, I didn't know what to do. I waited a few days until I heard from Secure Horizons, then called Medicare to see if we could stay with ODS. I was told he had been 'disenrolled' and I would have to write a letter of appeal, etc.

After more phone calls, I gave up. So Dean is stuck with Secure Horizons. It will cost us far more in copays, but I've quit fighting it. I talked with Jane at the Salem Clinic who coordinates referrals for Secure Horizons and she assured me she would get the paperwork and Dr. Hall's signature for everything back to January 1. This is good as the bill for the first MRI on the 31st was over $1600 (which ODS will pay); the second $1900+. Then there's the CT scan, and the ER...

Behold God is my salvation. I will trust and not be afraid.
