Halfway

Our weekend was fairly uneventful, thank You Lord. Son and friend cleared out a big pile of brush left over from the ice storm and stacked the small branches salvaged for firewood. Our sweet neighbor volunteered to take the feral cats, Mama and two babies, to the vet for spaying. And bless her heart, she kept one of the babies and found a home for the other. I will keep the Mom as the Humane Society would probably just put her down. She's low maintenance and gets along with Jonathan's older cat. I miss the little sweeties, but it is good not to have them underfoot.

The swelling in his feet is still a problem, but has decreased substantially. He has lost much muscle. He continues to have no pain; sometimes a little shortness of breath. He can tell things aren't right in his lungs. He has been able to get up by himself and the many trips to the bathroom (the diuretic) seem to have helped his leg strength. He has been waking early in the mornings and reading for hours (currently Galatians and G. Campbell Morgan's The Great Physician) before I get his breakfast. His disposition has improved since I asked him to quit watching the news.

Monday was chemo #4 so we are halfway. Friends Paul and Karen, and Dean's daughter and son-in-law accompanied us and visited while he was in treatment. When we got home, he wanted to try getting to the house using his walker. We walked down the road to avoid the steps down from where we park. I asked him to wait for SIL before attempting the porch steps. He was able to pull himself up using his arms. Made him feel good that he could. We shared a little meal and a visit and he was ready for bed. Asleep about 15 seconds after his head touched the pillow. Tuesday we both recovered with long naps and a Bourne movie.

Today, Wednesday, I felt okay about leaving him alone for a short time to run errands and grocery shop. Picked up one of those tiny, seedless watermelons and it was delicious, especially for this time of year. I have a stack of bills I've been avoiding that need my attention.

Next week is his week off of chemo, then we begin again on the 23rd. If the weather is spring-like, Jonathan will help him get to the car so we can take a little drive for a change of scenery and fresh air.

Dean has had calls and a few short visits from friends. He encouraged them.

I enjoyed the picture of Dean and Jonathon. I noticed you took a few days off and was wondering about you. It helped me to pray more, though. Kelland and I would love to stop by some time, if you are up to it. Let me know. Let us know if you need help with anything.
